Ah Counter

Description
The Ah Counter notes words and sounds used as “pause fillers” or crutch words, for instance “ah”, “um”, “you know”, “so”, “like”, “and so”, as well as the repetition of words to fill space such as “well, well”, or sounds like lipsmacks or other distracting utterances. We don’t record the Ahs, Ums, and other filler words for guests!! They are exempt. Remember we don’t want to scare them off!

Additional Notes
The Ah Counter can choose to provide immediate feedback by using a clicking device or dropping pebbles in a jar when the utterance occurs. This can be a powerful mechanism to help members stop using distracting filler words and sounds! However, this technique can be very distracting and disorienting for newer members, so use your best judgment when trying out this technique. Perhaps, give immediate feedback to experienced members, and give a report later to newer members!
